Being an author

I get asked a lot about how I became a writer and what my inspiration is.

The first question is hard to answer. I have always, always wanted to be a writer. I mean, I wanted to be a teacher too, but maybe a writer on the side. I have tried and tried to make a go of it, but I could get stuck in the middle and couldn’t see my path forward well. On the backburner it would go.

Then I’d get another idea and another, but again I couldn’t get over that middle or develop forward.

That was until I wrote Mandy’s Story: Courage. I finished. I made it to the end. Granted, it was a rough, rough story and would have to change and evolve of the next weeks, months, and years. It’s still not perfect, but I love the story. I love the characters and the setting so much. Mandy grows so much and shows such strength that she didn’t even know she had.

Her story came to me in a dream I had that I couldn’t shake after a few months, so I wrote out the idea. Then I asked myself what next? And, what lead to this? How did we get here? Somehow it all came together.

Then one of my aunts challenged me to write a mystery. Oh-kay … let me think? What if she is a medium who solves murders? But what if she is actual a fake … until she isn’t? That’s how my Medium with a Heart series started.

I have several other projects on my list a paranormal suspense that I’m hoping to have out by the end of this year and then a few other standalone projects next year. Fingers crossed I can stay motivated and keep the inspiration flowing.
