Research

When writing, there is a lot of research that goes into it. I knew this would be the case, but I didn’t realize how much and the types of things I would research.

For a book I’m working on now, I reached out to friends and one of my friends reply that she could help. After talking back and forth, she said she was happy to see how much research I was putting into this. I don’t think many people realize how much I have actually put into all my books thus far.

Sure you would think if you add in historic facts, research. Medical terms? Yep. Cop terminology, laws and legal jargon. But I didn’t know that I would research about child development or slang from the 60s. Job duties for a copy editor, yep, I looked that up. When was the ball point pen invented? And so many other things I couldn’t even possibly list them all.

I spend a lot of time looking for synonyms. That is fun though, trying to find the perfect word. I have expanded my vocabulary quite a bit, and I think my writing has evolved over time (as it should). My descriptions better, my flow of sentences more natural.

I credit practice, editing, and research for these things.

I hope to keep learning, keep evolving my writing, and hopefully entertain in the process.
